Lookalikes & traps
Masterpiece / premium sheets reuse famous characters. Treat OTP as its own SKU — never 1:1 with the main-set printing of Breaking News / Mana Drain. Also watch foil vs nonfoil: sheen does not change which set Breaking News is.
Confirm after the icon
Bottom information line should show collector number + set code OTP (and usually a C/U/R/M rarity letter). On Breaking News / Mana Drain, mismatch between listing title and OTP is the usual bait-and-switch.
How to identify Breaking News cards
- 1
Find the expansion symbol on the type line and match it to the Breaking News icon on this page (OTP).
- 2
Read rarity from symbol color on Breaking News: black common, silver uncommon, gold rare, orange mythic — foil sheen does not change it.
- 3
Cross-check OTP + collector number so Breaking News / Mana Drain is not priced under the wrong product line.

Rarity by symbol color
Special product (masterpiece): rarity color may still follow modern conventions when a symbol is present, but SKU/treatment beats draft-rarity folklore. Verify OTP and the collector number before comparing to a main-set printing of Breaking News.
Legend shows the modern post-Exodus palette. Pre-Exodus sets and special rarities (for example Time Spiral purple timeshifted) follow the rarity reading above — not this swatch row alone.
