Dominaria set symbol
Dominaria uses a Benalish-shield expansion symbol. Commons were printed white (not black) for this set so the filled shield would not collide with Darksteel’s black common shield.

Darksteel (DST) also used a shield icon. In black fill the two commons looked too similar — that is why Dominaria commons are white. Do not price a DOM common as DST (or the reverse) from silhouette alone.

Confirm set code DOM plus collector number. A shield that is black-common is more likely Darksteel; a white-common shield with DOM is Dominaria.

Rarity by symbol color
Standard modern colors still apply for uncommon/rare/mythic (silver / gold / orange). The Dominaria exception is commons: white fill instead of black. Use the bottom rarity letter (C/U/R/M) if the fill looks ambiguous at card size.
