Which MTG Card Scanner to Use

8 min read Updated 2026-09-29

What “best” depends on

Pages that rank Magic scanners with numeric scores answer a real query — which app for which job — and then invent a winner. This page keeps the decision table and drops the scores. It is not an accuracy ranking. Platform and job come from each product’s public listing or site, linked below. Try two apps on the same reprints in your own light before you switch a collection.

Choose by the job

App Where it runs Job it describes Trade-off
Tappr iPhone and Android Identify a physical printing and read a Scryfall market estimate (about every 24 hours), then track the collection Not a marketplace and not a deck lab. Confirm the printing. The figure is an estimate, not an in-stock offer.
ManaBox iPhone, iPad, and Android Scan, search offline, build and simulate decks, trade, and view several store price lists The scanner FAQ says recognition is art-based, so shared-art reprints can need a manual set correction
Delver Lens Android (Google Play) Scan cards into a collection, check prices, build decks, and export The iPhone app is a newer, separate listing (MTG Delver TCG Scanner), not the same Play Store binary
TCGplayer Marketplace, plus its own app Buy and sell on the US marketplace Market price is recent sales. A listing’s asking price can differ. Tappr is not the seller.
Scryfall Web Look up a card you can already name, and read where prices come from Not a camera scanner

How to use the table

Tappr’s own scope, from the pricing page and the card pages: scanning and checking the market estimate are free on iPhone and Android; Pro adds set-completion tracking, collection analytics, and value history. Prices on the site are the Scryfall sync described in how to read a market price.

What this page leaves out on purpose

Other scanners exist, including a Dragon Shield comparison already on this site. Roundups also score newer iOS apps. Those scores are not repeated here. If a site publishes a 4-out-of-5 accuracy table without a public method, treat it as advertising.

Step by step

How to choose a scanner

  1. 01

Name the job: identify a physical printing, build decks in the same app, scan on Android, or buy and sell.

  2. 02

Match that job to a row below using the product’s own store listing or site. This page is not an accuracy ranking.

  3. 03

Check the phone. Delver Lens on Google Play is the Android app. Delver’s iPhone app is a separate App Store listing.

  4. 04

On any scanner, confirm the set symbol and collector number before you trust a price.

  5. 05

When the next step is a purchase or a cash offer, open the marketplace or buylist. A scanner is not the seller.

FAQ

Common questions

01 What is the best MTG card scanner app?

There is no single best app. Match the job: ManaBox when you want decks and trades in the same app, Delver Lens when you want the Android scanner on Google Play, TCGplayer when you are buying or selling there, and Tappr when you want a printing identified and a 24-hour market estimate. This page is not an accuracy ranking.

02 What is the best MTG scanner for Android?

Delver Lens (Google Play, delverlab.delverlens) is the Android scanner its own site describes. ManaBox and Tappr also have Android listings. Pick by the job in the table, then test the one you install on your own cards.

03 What is the best MTG scanner for iPhone?

ManaBox and Tappr both have App Store listings. Delver’s iPhone app, MTG Delver TCG Scanner, is a separate newer listing — do not assume it is the same binary as Delver Lens on Android.

04 Is ManaBox or Delver Lens better?

ManaBox’s listings describe a toolkit: search, scan, decks, and trades on iPhone and Android. Delver Lens’s Play listing is an Android scanner for organizing a collection. This page does not publish an accuracy score. The workflow note is ManaBox vs Tappr.

05 Does Tappr replace TCGplayer?

No. Tappr is not the seller. Use TCGplayer to buy or sell. Tappr shows a Scryfall estimate of TCGplayer market price, refreshed about every 24 hours, not a listing and not an in-stock offer.
