MTG Card Rarity Guide
From the black common symbol to the orange-red mythic — learn how to read every rarity tier by its set-symbol color and what each one is worth.
Common
The foundation of every set and every collection. Commons fill booster packs and power the entire Pauper format — proof that the lowest rarity still holds some of the game’s best cards.
Uncommon
The rarity that quietly runs the game. Uncommons deliver many of Magic’s most efficient staples — powerful enough to shape formats, common enough to stay affordable.
Rare
The backbone of a set’s value. Most boosters guarantee at least one rare, and this tier is home to the bombs, lands, and build-arounds that define constructed decks.
Mythic Rare
The top of the standard rarity ladder. Mythic rares are the planeswalkers, legendary bombs, and chase cards that headline every set — the flashiest and often most valuable pulls.
Special & Bonus
The premium collector treatments that sit outside the normal rarity ladder — showcase frames, borderless art, foil-etched cards, and Masterpiece inserts that turn staples into grails.
