Lookalikes & traps
Promo stamps and prerelease marks sit beside Year of the Ox 2021 art. Confirm the promo set code rather than assuming booster-pack PL21. Also watch foil vs nonfoil: sheen does not change which set Year of the Ox 2021 is.
Confirm after the icon
Bottom information line should show collector number + set code PL21 (and usually a C/U/R/M rarity letter). On Year, mismatch between listing title and PL21 is the usual bait-and-switch.
How to identify Year of the Ox 2021 cards
- 1
Locate the Year of the Ox 2021 set mark (PL21) before you trust the card name — reprints reuse names across products.
- 2
Read rarity from symbol color on Year of the Ox 2021: black common, silver uncommon, gold rare, orange mythic — foil sheen does not change it.
- 3
Verify PL21 on the bottom line; listings that only show the card name are where Year of the Ox 2021 get mixed with siblings.
- 4
If icon and PL21 still disagree with a marketplace title, scan with Tappr rather than guessing from art.
Rarity by symbol color
Special product (promo): rarity color may still follow modern conventions when a symbol is present, but SKU/treatment beats draft-rarity folklore. Verify PL21 and the collector number before comparing to a main-set printing of Year.
Legend shows the modern post-Exodus palette. Pre-Exodus sets and special rarities (for example Time Spiral purple timeshifted) follow the rarity reading above — not this swatch row alone.
